Current Conditions:
Compared to about a month ago, Boulder Creek was a very different story on 6/6. Flows were high and muddy, and it seems like we are getting some runoff pulses here and there.
We fished in town by the stadium, and it ended up being a slower day. The water had more color and push than our last trip, which made things a little tougher and limited the amount of obvious feeding activity.
We managed to scratch a few fish off under the surface, but it took some work. Nymphs were the ticket, and getting flies down into the right lanes mattered more than anything happening up top.
We did see a few small BWOs on the water, but there were no rising fish in sight. With the higher, muddier water, fish seemed much less willing to look up, so subsurface presentations were the only real option.
Overall, it was a tougher day on Boulder Creek. There are still fish to be found, but with the creek running higher and off-color, it is not nearly as forgiving as it was during the lower, clearer spring conditions. Until the water settles a bit, expect to work for fish and focus more on nymphing than dries.
