Current Conditions:
Flows were steady today at 65cfs with clear water and moderate hatch activity throughout the afternoon & evening.
There were consistent signs of fish both rising and moving subsurface, but nothing that felt overly predictable. Fish were around, you just had to figure out how they wanted it.
Surface activity was the most puzzling part of the day. The most committed risers showed up during the heaviest rain, which went against what you’d expect and made things a little harder to dial in.
Bug activity was present but not overwhelming. Enough to keep fish interested, but not enough to lock them into any one pattern.
Fish were spread across a wide range of water types...deep pools, slower shallow sections, riffles, and big tailouts all had potential. No single type of water outperformed the others consistently.
Success came from covering water, adjusting often, and having confidence in switching approaches. This wasn’t a day where one rig carried you.
Flies of the Day:
sz20 juju baetis
sz18 mole fly
Overall:
A day that rewards the angler willing to explore, adjust, and lean on a deep toolkit. Not automatic, but plenty of opportunity if you stay adaptable.
