5/22/2026: Bear Creek

Current Conditions:

Bear Creek absolutely showed off today. The action kicked off around 11 AM under sunny skies and perfect early afternoon conditions. Flows were looking ideal after a recent bump from the rain, and the creek had that “fish every seam” kind of energy from the first step in.

The dry fly game was immediately on. Mayflies were skittering and bouncing across the surface in chaotic fashion, and fish were looking up with serious intent. A size 18 parachute proved to be the ticket. Four fish came in the first ten casts, with aggressive takes from eager browns and rainbows holding tight along the softer water.

From there, things only escalated. Nearly every fish in a 100-yard stretch seemed willing to rise, turning the afternoon into an all-out dry fly clinic. Well-presented drifts were consistently rewarded with explosive eats and spirited fights.

Conditions became impossible to ignore, and Frothy J punched out of work early to join the fun. After surveying the steady risers and launching a few sunflower seeds creekside, he quickly got dialed in and proceeded to hammer both browns and rainbows within reach.

Not long after, Benny Biot arrived sporting Crocs and his trademark cool-guy confidence. He stepped into the creek and instantly joined the carnage, finding success on dries almost immediately.

As if on cue, Goody eventually appeared and this time he brought his mom along for the show. Mama Goody watched proudly from the bank as her son threaded delicate casts through tangled creekside branches and picked off rising rainbows one after another on dry flies.

Flies Of The Day:

  • Sz 20 rs2

  • Sz 16 Stimulator

  • Sz 18 Poison Tung

  • Sz 18 No Mery Midge

Overall, Bear Creek fished about as good as it gets today. Healthy flows, heavy bug activity, eager fish, and nonstop surface eats made for one of those sessions that reminds you exactly why spring fishing season is hard to beat.

A note from Benny Biot: "Warning Colorado anglers, wet wading is not advised just yet"
